As soon as I pulled out of the driveway, Royals was blasting through my speakers.
“But everybody’s like:
Cristal, Maybach, diamonds on your time piece
jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash-
We don’t care, we aren’t caught up in your love affair…”
My husband hates this song and I love the shit out of it. She’s speaking the truth. To me anyway. These celebrities are talkin’ about what they’re doing and where they’re going and I’m all BUY ONE GET ONE FREE VITAMINS AT KROGER- what?!? Score!! That’s what gets me pumped. Keep your flashy lifestyle. I don’t want cameras following me everywhere.
“‘Cause even when I’m a mess
I still put on a vest with an ‘S’ on my chest
I’m a Superwoman…”
Cause you know what? Being a mom has made me Superwoman- I’m convinced of this. Every day, like every other mom on the planet, I get up and get it done. Not necessarily because I want to, but because I have to.
And it goes on like this ’til I get to work.
I put new songs on my cell phone last night and I’m pretty pumped about them for today’s workout. I knew that when I decided to tackle running, music was a must and the right playlist was even more of a must. (Is that proper English? Ah well)
I’ve talked about how music runs in my veins and the right playlist is part of what is going to keep me going and push me forward whether I’m on the track or outside hitting the pavement.
My first day playlist was okay- nothing fancy. I ended up taking Run This Town off because it’s not fast enough for my liking- not when I’m running, anyway. It may be a warm-up song that I can use when I’m walking. The problem, for me, with having great songs to run to- is that I wanna stop what I’m doing and dance.
That Cherish song was a recommendation from a friend of mine and I have a hard time not stopping what I’m doing to dance. I’m not sure the other runners on the track would appreciate that, though. So really- you’ll see me running and my hands moving from time-to-time… cause I’m dancing with my hands. That’s my happy medium.
After my run, I walk to cool down, then I stretch and that’s where John Legend comes in with all of his amazingness to serenade me. Again? I need to remember that there are other people in my presence- cause I wanna sing the mess out of this song when I hear it.
I’m learning self-control. Slowly.
Huffington Post has a great ongoing list of great songs to workout to that I like to reference from time-to-time for suggestions.
How about you- what do you like to listen to when you exercise? Or do you not listen to anything at all? I’m all ears.
